Block122 is a funded San Francisco based startup that explores and celebrates wine culture. The site also has a shopping cart for selling & shipping wines across the United States. Social features provided by Buddypress offer a way for multiple bloggers to contribute to the site and helps wine lovers connect.
Shopping Cart: Initially built with WP E-Commerce, the site is upgraded to WooCommerce, which provides additional shopping cart features & performance stabilty. Both plugins have been extensively integrated with the site's custom Wordpress theme. The WPEC checkout process in particular has been greatly improved.
Social: Social features are provided by BuddyPress, a turn-key social networking platform for Wordpress. Re-using exising code & components has sped up development time and helped to control costs.
ShipCompliant: Custom plugins have been authored for both WPEC and WooCommerce to integrate with the ShipCompliant API via SOAP/WSDL. This API is used to automatically check the compliance of orders, taking into account all state & local regulations that may effect a customer's ability to purchase alcohol online. The plugins also sync product data between the ShipCompliant back-end and the shopping cart admin dashboard in Wordpress.
